Beatrice Internal Medicine Clinic is Moving

The Beatrice Internal Medicine Clinic is moving from its North Tenth Street location to the second floor of Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center.

The move is expected to be completed in late August when Dr. Steven Paulmeyer of Omaha will join Dr. Don Weldon in the clinic. Nurse Practitioner Wauneta Kempf, nurses and office staff will make the move to the new hospital location with Dr. Weldon.

BCHHC’s ongoing strategic planning discussions led to the decision to move the clinic and hire another Internist.

“We are continually reviewing and assessing the healthcare needs of our community, and we believe these changes will serve our patients well both now and in the future,” Thomas W. Sommers, BCHHC CEO, said.

Dr. Weldon has been serving the community of Beatrice as an Internist since June 1986, and the clinic became part of the BCHHC system in August 2013.

Dr. Paulmeyer, an Omaha, Nebraska , native, earned his Doctorate from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed his residency at the University of Nebraska Department of Internal Medicine. He will begin seeing patients in October.

Internists are specially trained physicians who are focused on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult disease, in particular, the management of adults who are dealing with multiple diseases and illnesses.

“Because of the complexity of many of their illnesses, patients will benefit from the proximity of hospital services, such as laboratory and diagnostic imaging, during their clinic visits,” Dr. John Findley, BCHHC Chief Medical Officer, said. “In addition, the Internists will be able to better coordinate care with our Specialty Physicians, such as cardiologists, who travel from other communities to our hospital to see patients.”

Dr. Findley said coordination of care is essential for patients with complex illnesses and diseases, and with their new clinic location in the hospital the Internists will be able to work closely with the Hospitalists, the Advanced Illness Management Program and the hospital’s Social Services and Case Management staff.

“I’m looking forward to our move and working with Dr. Paulmeyer and providing the best care possible for our patients,” Dr. Weldon said. Dr. Weldon encouraged his patients to call the clinic if they had questions about the move.
