Evening in Pink - Oct. 11, 2011

The 10th annual An Evening in Pink breast cancer awareness event is scheduled for Oct. 11, 2011.

More details will be posted as they become available.

An Evening in Pink is organized by the Beatrice Community Hospital and supported by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Public Health Solutions and local businesses and organizations.

Ready Set Go - July 28, 2011

National Guard Armory, located on the west edge of Beatrice, 210 S. Reed St.

This back-to-school program for low-income children of Gage County is co-sponsored by the Beatrice Salvation Army.

Services include: school clothes, shoe coupons, haircut vouchers, school physicals, health kits and backpacks with school supplies.

In addition, Gage County United Way is supporting the program with its Stuff the Bus event. Beginning July 1, drop-off sites for new school supplies are Beatrice Public Library, East Court Dairy Queen and West Court Dairy Queen,  or Fridays, July 22 and July 29, in the Wal-Mart Parking Lot.

The next health expo will be held in April 2012. More details will be posted as they become available.

PATCH

Beatrice Community Hospital/Gage County (NE) Planned Approach to Community Health (PATCH) is a community health planning model that was developed in the mid-1980s by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in partnership with state and local health departments and community groups.

PATCH is a process that involves and enables members of the community to plan, implement and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention programs.

BCH/Gage County PATCH coalition was initiated in 1986. In coordination with national health objectives, BCH/PATCH targets five objectives as guidelines in planning toward the year 2010.

Those objectives are:

  • Improve nutrition through school and worksite education.
  • Reduce unintentional injuries through safety awareness-seat belt/car seats.
  • Improve physical activity and fitness by increasing activity.
  • Reduce use of and exposure to tobacco.
  • Decrease alcohol and drug problems.
  • Projects include:

    • Annual spring walk
    • Kids on the Move in Beatrice fourth grade classes
    • Walking track in basement of Beatrice Public Library
    • Web site
    • Coordinator is Sharon Langvardt.
