PATCH

Beatrice Community Hospital/Gage County (NE) Planned Approach to Community Health (PATCH) is a community health planning model that was developed in the mid-1980s by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in partnership with state and local health departments and community groups.

PATCH is a process that involves and enables members of the community to plan, implement and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention programs.

BCH/Gage County PATCH coalition was initiated in 1986. In coordination with national health objectives, BCH/PATCH targets five objectives as guidelines in planning toward the year 2010.

Those objectives are:

  1. Improve nutrition through school and worksite education.
  2. Reduce unintentional injuries through safety awareness-seat belt/car seats.
  3. Improve physical activity and fitness by increasing activity.
  4. Reduce use of and exposure to tobacco.
  5. Decrease alcohol and drug problems.

Projects include:

  • Annual spring walk
  • Kids on the Move in Beatrice fourth grade classes
