Foundation

The Foundation's mission is to provide financial resources for present and future needs of Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center.

The Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation helps generate thousands of dollars yearly to support a number of BCHHC health-related activities and events including Breast Cancer Awareness, Cardiac Rehab, Health Fair, Home Health, Hospice, Immunization Clinic, Lifeline, Physician Recruitment and the Ready Set Go back-to-school program. Funds are also provided for the Scholarship Program.

A key component of the Foundation's success is the individuals and businesses that are members of the Centurian Club, established in 1978. Centurians partner with the Foundation to help the hospital provide essential medical services for the community.

Our annual fundraiser, "Catch the Glow," is held the first Friday in December. Security First Bank sponsors this fun filled evening with silent and live auctions, hors d'oeuvres and desserts. Through generous community support this event is instrumental in funding non-budgeted equipment and programs.

Cash/Check
A gift of cash/check is the easiest way to contribute. Donors who make gifts of cash or check are eligible for a charitable deduction in the year the gift is made.

Stocks, Bonds and Mutual Funds
Stocks may be donated to the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation as a charitable gift. Donors are eligible for a tax deduction for the fair market value of the stock. By donating appreciated stock to the Foundation, donors can also avoid capital gains tax that would otherwise occur at the sale of the stock. Please notify us of yuor plans to donate securities. We will work with your advisors to make the transfer seamless.

Personal Property
If you would like to donate personal property to the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation, please contact our office at 402-223-3078. Some gifts require appraisal or advance approval in order to be accepted. Examples of gifts of property include tickets to athletic events, rare books and artwork.

Real Estate
All gifts or real estate require prior approval by the Foundation. A gift of real estate may be a principal residence or vacation home, a farm, a commercial building, a subdivision lot, or unimproved land. The gift may be the entire property or a fractional interest in the property. Pelase contact the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation if you would like to pursue this gifting vehicle.

Matching Gifts
Many companies and foundations will double or even triple the value of charitable gifts made by employees and their spouses, board members, and retirees. Ask your employer if a matching gift program is in place that will increase the size of your gift.

Payroll Deduction
Beatrice Community Hospital employees can make charitable contributions to the Foundation by payroll deduction. Contact the Foundation office or Human Resources to secure a form.

Bequest -- Wills & Revocable Trusts
The most common form of deferred gift to the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation is a bequest contained in a person's will or revocable (living) trust.

The most common form of deffered gift to support the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation is a bequest contained in a person's will or revocable (living) trust. The bequest can provide for:
-- A fixed dollar amount.
-- A percentage of one or more of your assets, i.e. 25 percent of my estate at death.
--The residual of your estate, i.e., the remainder of your assets after satisfying your distribution wishes to other individuals or organizations.

Life Income Gifts
A life income gift, such as a charitable gift annuity or a charitable remainder unitrust, can provide you and/or your loved ones with an income for the duration of your lives or for a specific number of years. You receive a current income tax deduction as well.

Life income gifts serve a dual purpose -- they provide philanthropic support for the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation while also providing both a charitable income tax deduction and an income stream to you and/or your loved ones.

These gift vehicles can provide income benefits comparable to -- or in some cases exceeding -- those that might be earned in non-charitable vehicles. Many donors establish life income gifts with assets that are producing a very small amount of income, such as cash or appreciated stocks that do not earn dividents.

Consider one of these basic types of life income gifts:
A charitable gift annuity provides a fixed income for life.

A charitable remainder unitrust makes payments that fluctuate with the market and therefore may provide a hedge against inflation.

A charitable remainder annuity trust provides a fixed income like a gift annutiy, but the tax treatment of the payout may be preferable for donors giving highly appreciated assets.

The first two options are by far the most common types of life income gifts. Some donors establish life income gifts though theirs wills as a means of providing a life income to a loved one.

Gifts of Life Insurance
You can name the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation as a primary or contingent beneficiary of a life insurance policy. If you retain any control over the policy, no income tax deduction is allowed; however, if the foundation is named both the sole owner and beneficiary of a paid-up policy, you may receive an immediate charitable deduction for the lesser of the policy's fair market value or the net premiums paid. Additional premiums that you pay may also be tax deductible.

Gifts of Retirement Plans
Naming the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation as a primary or contingent beneficiary of a retirement plan (e.g. IRA, SEP, 401(k), 403(b), ESOP, etc.) may enable you to make a larger gift than you anticipated because income and estate taxes are not imposed when plan assets are distributed to the foundation. Your retirement account's plan administrator (the company that manages the account) can help you designate the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation as a primary or contingent beneficiary on the plan's beneficiary form.

Charitable Lead Trusts
These trusts can be used to transfer assets to a loved one with a significantly reduced tax liability.

A charitable lead trust can be used to transfer assets to children or others at a significantly reduced tax liability. The trust makes a fixed payment to the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation for a specified term, measured either by someone's life or a selected number of years.

After the trust term ends, the assets of the trust are either returned to you or passed on to children or other loved ones. If the assets are to be returned to you, you receive an income tax deduction when the trust is created. If the assets are passed on to heirs, applicable estate or gifft taxes on the vlaue of the gift are reduced or completely eliminated. The tax savings from a charitable lead trust may allow you to provide significant support to the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation at little or no cost to heirs in terms of ultimate inheritance.

A charitable lead trust may provide either a fixed "annutiy" payment or a variable "untrust" payment to the Beatrice Community Hospital Foundation. Low interest rates make the annuity payment option attractive for donors as more asets may be passed on to heirs.

A charitable lead trust can be a powerful tool in gift and estate tax planning, but the technical complexities require careful consideration. The foundation's staff is glad to work with you and your financial advisors to see if a charitable lead trust is the right plan for you.

Retained Life Estate in Property
You can generate a current income tax deduction by giving a home or farm to the Beatrice  Community Hospital Foundation, while retaining the right to use the property during your lifetime. The property will also be removed from your taxable estate. Contact the foundation to discuss this gift opportunity in more detail.
