Spring 2013
Dear Friend of Hospice,
Did you know that the Beatrice Community Hospital Hospice program has been in service for over 30 years?
BCH Hospice started in 1982 as an all volunteer program and was one of the very first programs in Nebraska. At this early stage "hospice" was a word that no one was familiar with and for the first three years the program was staffed entirely by volunteers. In 1986, Medicare added hospice as a benefit and our program was placed unter the umbrella of Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center where it continues to operate today.
BCH Hospice services are 100 percent covered by Medicare/Insurance and are available 24 hours a day/seven days a week. Whether it's providing medication to control pain and other symptoms, arranging a hospital bed or other equipment, or assisting indiiduals and families to adjust to new challenges, hospice helps patients and families adjust and cope with the demands of life threatening illnesses.
I am writing on behalf of the Hospice Team to inform you of our annual "Tree of Life" campaign scheduled for March 29-30. This year, the "Tree of Life" will be displayed in the "new" hospital main lobby and following the event it will remain in the lobby for two more weeks. This event offers us an opportunity to provide increased education about hospice care to a greater number of people. The hospice volunteers will also be showing hospice inspired quilts.
I invite you to honor a loved one and support our community-based hospice program by making a donation in your loved one's name.
If you choose to make a gift please know that 100 percent of this money will be used to assist current patients and families or directed toward funding a hospice endowment to ensure assistance is available to the patients and families in future years.
In closing, thank you for your continuing support. Your thoughtfulness by way of your gifts helps us provide the best care possible for our patients and families at a time when they are most vulnerable.
Respectfully,
Paul Jensen, Hospice Coordinator
