Services - Speech Pathology

Speech Therapy is offered through the Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center Rehabiliation Services Department.  A full-time staff of licensed speech language pathologists are available to offer evaluations, treatment, family education and home programs for people who have the following diagnosis:

  • Language/speech loss from a stroke
  • Language/speech disorders due to progressive neurological disorders such as ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and others.
  • Cognitive/memory/language impairment due to brain injury
  • Voice disorder
  • Voice loss due to laryngectomy
  • Voice use with a Passy Muir Valve
  • Stuttering

    Therapy services include:

     BCH offers modified barium swallow studies in conjunction with the Diagnostic Cepartment to assess the oral and pharyngeal swallow.

    Children of all ages receive specialized care from a team of therapists. Special emphasis is placed on preschool children, multiple disabilities, augmentative communication methods, swallowing, socializing, playing, oral-motor problems and the development of age appropriate speech and language skills.

    Whether the child is delayed in development, is slow to talk, has difficulty understanding, or is hyperactive, the Beatrice Community Hospital Speech/Language Pathologists are available to assess and treat children who:

    • Have speech that is difficult to understand
    • Have difficulty understanding new words
    • Have trouble following directions
    • Stutter
    • Have a chronic hoarse voice
    • The department provides inpatient-outpatient
      and Home Health services.
